The Belle of Amherst by William Luce comes to Mount Tabor Playhouse in The County! Tickets are available at the theatre for each performance, at the counter at Books & Company, at Live Laugh Eat in September, and right now online by clicking on the “Purchase Tickets” button.
September 21-30, 2017, Joan McBride performs The Belle of Amherst, and through the magic of theatre, American poet Emily Dickinson’s revolutionary and poetic voice is brought to life as she welcomes the audience into her mid-19th century Amherst Massachusetts home. Playwright William Luce weaves the poems, diaries, and letters of the reclusive poet into a one-woman portrait, mixing Dickinson’s encounters with close friends and family with her own amusing observations. “An overwhelming, meticulous adventure full of passion and poetry and heart” said the New York Daily News.

The Backdrop

A very special backdrop representing Emily’s garden is being prepared for this play. Designed by County artist Andrew Innes, it is being painted by another County artist, Celia Sage. The final result in the theatre will be spectacular.

Costume fitting

The dress is coming along beautifully and all the costume elements are nearing completion. Today we did the final fitting for Emily’s white dress — it looks beautiful. Add the apron, the cape, and the bonnet, and the result is stunning.
